My work addresses a broad spectrum of issues in food microbiology, safety, and quality,
particularly the use of novel non-thermal technology (X-ray, ClO2 gas and electrolyzed water) for disinfecting fresh produce (fruits, vegetables), seafood, and dairy products. My research also applies traditional and modern molecular rapid methods (RT-PCR) for the detection of foodborne pathogens including Campylobacter jejuni, Escherichia coli O157:H7, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella enterica, Shigella flexneri, Vibrio parahaemolyticus, and Vibrio vulnificus.
