2007 Center Annual Report
Center Focus and Objectives
The mission of the Risk Analysis and Policy Center is to serve as a forum for Center members to exchange ideas, information, and methods as they relate to the use of microbial risk analysis in support of food safety policy decision-making. Members include those with backgrounds in food microbiology, epidemiology, engineering, statistics, sociology, economics, and a variety of other areas that support food safety risk assessment, management and communication, and other issues that lead to policy formulation.
Center Activities and Projects
The purpose of the NAFSS Risk Analysis and Policy Center is to bring together collaborative researchers in the areas of microbiology, food science, mathematics, epidemiology, and the social sciences who are engaged in risk analysis and policy analysis. This includes the quantitative components of risk assessment, as well as efforts in risk management and risk communication. The goal is to provide a group of scientists who are available to tackle critical risk analysis and policy issues in a timely manner using a multidisciplinary, multi-institutional approach.
Impact Statement
The continued efforts of the scientists in the Risk Analysis and Policy Center provide the essential framework for integrating incidence data to generate management and communication strategies to mitigate the incidence of foodborne illness.
