Center Focus and Objectives
The focus of the Center for Education and Outreach is to communicate with the public and provide an integrated educational approach regarding food safety research.
The objectives of the Center are to develop and implement educational opportunities for all constituent groups; to provide a forum for scientific presentations that make available the work of the Alliance, and act as a resource for both the Alliance and the public in the communication of food safety research.
Center Activities and Projects
NAFSS provided two symposia on Listeria monocytogenes: 1) ISOPOL meeting held in Savannah, GA March 20-23, 2007 and 2) National Restaurant Association Meeting on October 16, 2007 in Rogers, AR.
Impact Statement
LM is responsible for about 2,500 cases of Listeriosis in the U.S. each year with a fatality rate of 20%. These two recent symposia highlight current strategies for improving LM control programs.
