Center for Detection Technology
2007 Center Annual Report
Center Focus and Objectives
The focus of the Center for Detection Technology is to develop and validate rapid detection methods for pathogens of concern to human health in foods. The objective is to achieve this through collaboration of Center Scientists in generating methodologies to isolate and quantify organisms of concern which may be utilized by Center Scientists in the Centers for Microbial Physiology and Ecology, Intervention Strategies and Risk Analysis and Policy to meet the goal of assuring a safe food supply.
Center Activities and Projects
Center scientists provided leadership in detection technology methods development by conducting the first Molecular Detection Day Program involving collaboration of university and USDA scientists.
Impact Statement
The leadership of NAFSS scientists involved in molecular detection methodology continues to be recognized nationally and internationally for their contributions to improved safety of the food supply.
